Lawngtlai, the 23rd April, 2020: As per arrangements made by Task Force on Agriculture Inputs to ensure smooth running of agricultural activities despite lockdown due to COVID-19, Lawngtlai Horticulture Division distributed various vegetable seeds for farmers within Lawngtlai District, today.

Under the supervision of Agriculture Department, requirements of vegetable seeds were collected from village level task forces (VLTFs) within Lawngtlai District and the same was forwarded to Horticulture Department, Aizawl. According to availability of seeds, the Horticulture Department then distributed among the districts for further distribution to farmers.

The seeds received by Lawngtlai Horticulture Division were mustard (25 kgs), bindhi/lady's finger (80 grams), French bean (40 kgs), black cowpea (60 kgs), giant cowpea (30 kgs), yard long bean (40 grams), bitter gourd (250 grams), cucumber (50 grams) and hot pepper & chilli (80 grams). These seeds are Open Pollinated Varieties (OPV).

Due to lockdown and to better follow social distancing, the seeds were handed over to the VLTFs of each locality who submitted their requirements. The VLTFs will further distributed the same according to the needs of their local farmers maintaining social distancing.
