Aizawl, the 13thAugust 2022 : As part of the 75thAnniversary of India’s Independence Celebration, Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department of Labour, Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship organized, ‘Walkathon For Skill Development’with the theme, “Youth Skills for a better Tomorrow”, on the today at 6:30 a.m. from Vanapa Hall to McDonald Hill, High Field. The programme was conducted with the assistance from the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Govt. of India.
At the opening of the Walkathon at Vanapa Hall, Mr. Lalramsanga Sailo, Secretary of LESDE Department gave a short speech encouraging the students towards the fulfillment of Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. He pointed that textbook education must complement skill development and stressed on the importance of skill development for the overall growth of the country. He highlighted the need to make use of various skill-training courses carried out by Govt. ITI and various other government departments to accomplish this. He further encouraged the students gathered on the occasion to participate in Skill Competitions organized by the department.
The Closing function of the Walkathon was held at High School Field, McDonald Hill where Director of LESDE Department, Mr. K.Lalhmingliana delivered a speech advocating Skill Development as the path towards a new Mizoram. He highlighted various skill competitions organized by the department and said that he believed that the youth of Mizoram have a bright future not only in sports Olympics but also in Skill Olympics. He mentioned the recently conducted World Education Summit:2022 at Hyderabad where LESDE Department Mizoram received ‘Award for Skill Development in Govt. Sector Initiatives’. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of skill development for the youth of Mizoram and that the development of the nation lies with the youth.
Four schools in Aizawl namely - Govt. Pianghleia High School, Modern English Higher Secondary School, Lalmalsawma Memorial School, JC Elementary School along with students and staff of Govt. ITI Aizawl altogether numbering around 150 members participated in this event. Besides this, there were officials from the department of Art and Culture, Mizoram.
