Pu C. Lalrosanga, the lone Member of Parliament from Mizoram visited the new battalion headquarters of Assam Rifles at Zokhawsang, which is still under construction, to see their preparedness to shift their headquarters from the heart of the city. Last year, the Ministry of Home Affairs had directed the Assam Rifles to shift the battalion headquarters of the force from the state capital Aizawl to Zokhawsang area by May 31, 2019.
On his visit, officials from 46 Assam Rifles informed the MP that construction of office building construction is 90% complete, and 60% of Type-II quarters have been completed so far and that they expect the construction to be finally completed by the end of April, 2020. However, the Lok Sabha MP was also informed that the construction works executed by Engineering Projects India Limited (EPIL) is far from satisfactory and that they have also written formal complaints to Union Ministry of Home Affairs, they also requested the MP to take up the matter to the concerned Ministry.
The Lok Sabha MP then proceeded to the construction site and inspected the ongoing works done by EPIL, no representatives from EPIL were available at the construction site and the MP also expressed his displeasure at the quality of works executed, he also promised to personally take up the matter to Union Home Minister.
Earlier, the Lok Sabha MP also inspected Gabion Walls constructed by Mizoram PWD to check huge landslide on the approach road to Zokhawsang, and he was informed that construction of Gabion Walls will be completed before May, 2020.
