Aizawl, the 25th June 2020 : Pu Zothantluanga, MLA Aizawl West-I MLA and Vice Chairman Manpower Development Board today inaugurated a LPG based Crematorium at Sairang.

Speaking on the occasion, Pu Zothantluanga said that a long standing much needed infrastructure for disposal of bodies by the non-Christian population of the state, especially the Gorkhas of Aizawl has been fulfilled by the installation of the gas based Crematorium. He pointed that the Gorkhas and Mizos have been living amicably sharing their joys and sufferings alongside for more than a century. He remarked that the Crematorium might also be used in the future by others looking at the scarcity of land around Aizawl city for burial grounds.

The Rs. 120 lakh project was conceptualised in 2012 by the Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Department in consultation with the Gorkha community of Aizawl. Fund for the project was earmarked from state funds, without any central funding. The project was started in February 2015 and completed in November 2018. The site of the crematorium is about 25 kilometres from the capital, Aizawl.

Councillors of Aizawl Municipal Corporation – Pu R. Lalbiakthanga and Pu H. Zonunsanga; UD &PA Director Pu HVL Zarzoenga and other officials and Gorkha community leaders were present at the brief function.
