The Art and Culture Department, Lunglei along with the Mizo Cultural Organization (MCO) Sub.Hqrs., Lunglei organized a one-day cultural extravaganza at Zohnuai Mual, Lunglei, today. The Deputy Commissioner of Lunglei Pi K.Lalrinzuali, who graced the programme as Chief Guest inaugurated the mega event.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner praised the efforts of the Art and Culture Department and the MCO in successfully organizing such an event which brings the people of Lunglei together in celebration, creating a platform to showcase their talents while playing an important role in promoting and nurturing our rich cultural heritage. The best method of safeguarding our cultural heritage is to teach our younger generations and to follow the Mizo moral code of ethics such as ‘tlawmngaihna’ that is self-sacrifice for the benefit of others, respect for elders, kindness, honesty and bravery, she said.

The Cultural Meet began with traditional gun salute followed by a variety of traditional dances, folk songs, folk music, traditional games and sports. The event saw as many as 32 acts performed by the MCO, various branches of the YMA from Lunglei town, school children, Mizoram Gurkha Youth Association and popular Mizo singers.
