Lunglei, 26th January 2025: Lunglei District, along with the rest of the country, celebrated the 76th Republic Day today with the main ceremonial function held at C. Ṭhuamluaia Mual, Lunglei. The function was graced by the Deputy Commissioner of the District, Pi Navneet Mann, IAS, who unfurled the National Flag and inspected 26 parade contingents (4 armed contingents, 9 unarmed contingents, 10 school contingents and 3 pipe bands) which was followed by a ceremonial parade.
After the ceremonial parade, the Chief Guest delivered her Republic Day address, extending greetings and good wishes to the people of Lunglei District and applauded the good cooperation between government departments, churches, NGOs, political parties, media and general public for development and progress of the District. She highlighted some of the achievements of the District during the past year and mentioned that Lungsen RD Block had achieved the 1st position in the NITI Aayog’s Aspirational Block Programme Delta ranking for Zone 1 (Hilly, North East, and Islands) as of March 2024. She also mentioned that the physical progress of the road construction of National Highway 302 between Lunglei and Tlabung had come up to 50% covering most of the critical areas. After the speech, the Chief Guest handed prizes of ceremonial parade, awards and trophies to respective recipents as below:

The ceremonial function was also attended by Deputy Inspector General of Police (Southern Range) Pu Altaf Ahmad Khan, SP Lunglei Pu J. Lalmuankima, elected councillors of Lunglei Municipal Council, government officials, ex-servicemen, leaders of NGOs, churches and political parties, media personnel, prominent citizens, students, recipients of prizes and general public.

After the ceremonial function, a VIP's At Home programme was organised at the courtyard of the DC's Bungalow. To mark the auspicious occasion, the District Republic Day Celebration Committee distributed token gifts amounting to ₹ 35,000/- to various charitable institutions in the District, namely, Bethel Centre (Chhumliamkawn, Sazaikawn), Baptist Church Orphanage (Ramzotlang, Serkawn), Kawlkhuma Boys Home (Chanmari), Chhawmdawlna In (Melte, Serkawn), Rescue Centre (Kawmzawl, Pukpui), Beiseina In (Kawmzawl, Pukpui), TNT Theiriat, WADA TRC (Chanmari), Observation Home (Pukpui) and Special Home (Pukpui).
