15th August 2024: Lunglei District, along with the rest of the country, observed the 78th Indian Independence Day today. The main ceremonial function in the District held at C. Ṭhuamluaia Mual, Lunglei was graced by Honourable Minister (Public Works Department, Transport & Parliamentary Affairs) Pu Vanlalhlana as Chief Guest and Honourable Deputy Speaker (Mizoram Legislative Assembly) Pu Lalfamkima as Guest of Honour.
As part of the celebration, a nationwide 'Har Ghar Tiranga' campaign observed during 13th - 15th August 2024 was also carried out throughout the District during which the National Tricolour was hoisted at every government institutions, quarters, important places and private residence of the citizens. At the ceremonial function at C. Ṭhuamluaia Mual, the Chief Guest hoisted the National Flag and inspected 31 parade contingents (4 armed contingents, 7 unarmed contingents, 17 school contingents and 3 pipe bands) which was followed by a ceremonial parade.
In his Independence Day address, the Chief Guest extended greetings and good wishes to the people of Lunglei District and applauded the good cooperation between government departments, churches, NGOs, political parties, media and general public for development and progress of the District. He also highlighted achievements of various departments in the District.
After the speech, the Chief Guest and the Guest of Honour handed prizes of ceremonial parade, awards and felicitations, and trophies to respective recipents as below:

The Chief Guest was accompanied by his wife, Pi Lalremmawii; and the ceremonial function was attended by the Guest of Honour, Deputy Speaker Pu Lalfamkima; HPC Vice Chairman & MLA (Lunglei North) Pu V. Malsawmtluanga; MLA (Lunglei South) Pu Lalramliana Papuia; MLA (Lunglei West) Pu T. Lalhlimpuia; Deputy Commissioner Lunglei Pu R. Lalṭhazuala; SP Lunglei Pu J. Lalmuankima; elected councillors of Lunglei Municipal Council; government officials; ex-servicemen; leaders of NGOs, churches and political parties; media personnel; prominent citizens; students; recipients of prizes and general public.
After the ceremonial function, a VIP At Home tea party was organised at Circuit House, Lunglei. To mark the auspicious occasion, the District Independence Day Celebration Committee distributed token gifts amounting to ₹ 35,000/- to various charitable institutions, jail and hospitals in the District, namely, Civil Hospital Lunglei, Christian Hospital Serkawn, District Jail, Bethel Centre (Chhumliamkawn, Sazaikawn), Kawlkhuma Boys Home (Chanmari), WADA TRC (Chanmari), TNT Theiriat, Rescue Centre (Kawmzawl, Pukpui), Beiseina In (Kawmzawl, Pukpui), Baptist Church Orphanage (Ramzotlang, Serkawn) leh Chhawmdawlna In (Melte, Serkawn).
