A meeting of the District Level Standing Committee (DLSC) was convened yesterday at the DC Conference Hall to discuss Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Electoral Rolls w.r.t. 01.01.2020 as the qualifying date. The meeting was chaired by DC & DEO Lunglei District Mrs K. Lalrinzuali and was attended by the concerned Government Officials, NGO’s and political parties.
DEO Lunglei District Mrs K. Lalrinzuali welcomed the members present and invited their cooperation to ensure a healthy and correct updated Electoral Roll for Lunglei District as a whole. Speaking about the Electors Verification Programme (EVP), the District Election Officer said that the new initiative was introduced by the ECI with an objective to improve the health of electoral rolls and enrollment of all eligible citizens. EVP would be taken up in the District with the help of Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) and eligible voters could come forward to authenticate the details providing the documents approved by the Election Commission, she stated. Under EVP, the electors may verify the details through “Voter Helpline” Mobile App, National Voter Service Portal (NVSP), by visiting nearest Common Service Centres (CSCs) or submitting a hard copy of filled up forms through BLOs to EROs. An Elector can authenticate his entry in the electoral roll by furnishing copy of one of the following document-Indian Passport, Aadhaar Card, Driving License, Ration Card, or Any other document as approved by the Commission.
Election Officer of Lunglei District Mr Lalnundika spoke in length about the Pre-Revision and Revision Activities involved in the SSR. For the entire month of September ie 01.09.2019(Sunday) to 30.09.2019 (Monday), BLOs will undertake House to house verification wherein they will verify the information/details collected from citizen through crowd sourcing as well as verification of the same. Information/details of un-enrolled/dead/shifted electors will also be collected during this exercise. Integrated draft electoral roll for Lunglei District is slated to be published on 15/10/2019 (Tuesday) after which 15.10.2019 (Tuesday) to 30.11.2019(Saturday) would be the period for filing claims and objections. During the revision period special campaigns will also be organized on 02.11.2019, 03.11.2019, 09.11.2019 and 10.11.2019. Final publication of electoral roll is scheduled between 01.01.2020(Wednesday) and 15.01.2020 (Wednesday) and is yet to be finalized by the Commission.
Requests from respective BLO’s for shifting of 3 Polling Stations viz 33/15 – Vaisam, 31/20 – Electric Veng III and 30/16 Pukpui I were also discussed during this meeting. The Committee decided that proposed locations for these polling stations should be inspected once again by concerned officials before making a final decision. Requests for Rationalisation of Polling Stations - Zohnuai, Chanmari II, Phairuangchhuah, Kauchhuah, Lamthai, Bindasora were also discussed with the Committee deciding on another round of inspection. The meeting was concluded with a vote of thanks from the Chair.
