A meeting of the Lawngtlai town sanitation task force was held yesterday at the DC's Conference Hall, Lawngtlai under the chairmanship of Pi Rochuangkimi Khenglawt, SDO (Sadar) in which plan and programme for observation of Cleanliness Week 2019 and Swachhata Hi Seva (Mass Cleaning of Plastic Waste) were discussed.

The Cleanliness Week 2019 will be inaugurated in the morning of 2nd October, 2019 at Areopagy, Bazar Veng, Lawngtlai with a short function followed by a cleanliness rally by government officials, students, scouts & guides, National Service Scheme (NSS) and Self Help Groups under DAY-NULM. Various activities including cleanliness competitions and awareness campaigns are scheduled to be carried out during the Week that will last till 9th October, 2019.

In respect of Swachhata Hi Seva, the meeting decided that all 12 village councils within Lawngtlai town should organise a social work for collecting plastic and polythene wastes within their respective areas as per their convenience before 27th October, 2019. It was reported in the meeting that some of the village councils within Lawngtlai town were collecting and buying plastic and paper wastes from villagers in a motive to keep their areas free from these wastes.
