The final meeting with the Autonomous District Councils was held today at Raj Bhavan. Hon’ble Governor of Mizoram Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan chaired the meeting with Lai Autonomous District Council members and State government officials.
Governor Kummanam Rajasekharan said that the Constitution has given immense power to the Council do deal with the problems of their people and must therefore aim to extend their arms to touch the lives of people standing in the last row of society. He said that it is crucial to find an effective and efficient mechanism to solve the problems of the people through developmental activities. He also said that they must ensure the resources received from different sources reach the intended beneficiaries. The Governor stressed on the need to have a robust administrative system, streamlining of activities with a proper reporting and feedback mechanism. He also urged the members of the Council to get more involved and evaluate the various development projects being taken up. In the end, he appreciated the efforts of the Council for having surpassed their revenue target during the previous year and also encouraged them towards generating more.
The meeting deliberated upon filling up vacant posts in the Council, Lawngtlai Bypass Road, absence of science stream at higher secondary schools and colleges, waste management, skill development, value addition of natural products, food processing and other important issues. It was highlighted that more than 10 villages along the Indo-Myanmar border are yet to be electrified and the Myanmar refugees encamping in schools at different villages since last year have disrupted education of the students.
Representatives of LADC headed by CEM Shri T. Zakunga urged the Governor to take initiatives towards the early commissioning of the Lawngtlai Greater Water Supply Scheme and also the revival of the 635 MW Chhimtuipui Hydroelectric Power Plant taken up by NEEPCO.
