Aizawl 12th January, 2022: Amid recent rise in COVID-19 cases in Lunglei District, a meeting was held with members of Village Level Task Forces (VLTFs) at Lunglei DC Conference Hall on Monday. The meeting held a detailed review of the present situation in the District, and discussed strategies to contain the rapidly increasing COVID-19 cases.

The meeting was attended by members of VTLF, and officials from the DC Office, H&FW, Police & I&PR Departments.

Addressing the gathering, Lunglei Deputy Commissioner & Chairman, DLTF Pu Kulothungan A applauded the hard work put in by Health Department staffs, VTLFs and other stakeholders across the District, and urged them to continue working in earnest, amid a renewed surge in Covid-19 cases in the District. He instructed the VLTF leaders not to hesitate in reaching out to the District administration to seek necessary guidance, and to promptly report all instances of Covid-19 related emergencies in their respective localities.

As per reports by the H&FW Department, the District, till 10th January, 2022 has conducted a total of 1,19,893 Covid-19 tests, of which 12,359 (10.31%) were found to be positive. There has been 30 Covid-19 related deaths (male – 23, female - 7) in the District till date. At 371 active cases as on date, the District has recorded 388 new Covid-19 cases since the start of the year.

At the meeting, it was highlighted that total lockdown of the District would be the last resort, and that village/locality specific restrictions would be put in place as per requirements of the particular area. VLTFs were thus instructed to be in constant communication with officials so as to quickly respond as per the situation in their respective localities. At present, the District has 5 Restricted Areas viz College Veng, Lunglawn, Zotlang, Sekhum and Thenhlum.
