Aizawl, the 22nd September 2023 : In observance of World Alzheimer's Day, the Alzheimer and Related Disorders Society of India (ARDSI) Mizoram Chapter yesterday morning organized a "Memory Walk" in which a few officials, people with Alzheimer's disease, and their caregivers, as well as students from Mizoram University, Hrangbana College, Pachhunga University College, and Govt. Aizawl West College, participated. The memory walk started at 6:30 am from Chanmari to Dawrpui.

The event's chief guest Dr. Lalthangliana, Health Minister, emphasized the importance of physical and mental health in every individual and urged all health-care workers and carers to provide high-quality services to Alzheimer's patients. Dr. HK Laldinpuii Fente, Secretary of the ARDSI Mizoram chapter, spoke about the importance of supporting Alzheimer's patients and awarded a token reward to the college with the most participants in the event.

Following the memory walk, a programme was organized, which began with a welcome note by Dr Robert L Khawlhring SNO NMHP Mizoram where he mentioned that a Toll free helpline (14416) in the form of TeleManas was available. This was followed by a prayer by Most Reverend Stephen Rotluanga, Bishop of Aizawl. Mr. Vanneihtluanga, President of ARDSI, addressed the gathering by emphasizing the services and functions of the ARDSI Mizoram Chapter, where anyone with an issue related to Alzheimer's and its related disorders can call the helpline (9436140870/8794716364) and receive services in person as needed.

The workshop concluded with a pledge in which all participants pledged to be good and have empathy for individuals with Alzheimer's and similar disorders, as well as to treat their caregivers with respect and dignity and  to assist them in any way they require.
