Dear Friends,

As we all know, the Armed Forces Flag Day is observed on 7th December every year throughout the country. On this day, we salute the martyrs and the men in uniform who valiantly fought and continue to fight to safeguard our country's honour. Soldiers are the true guardians of the Nation, and they protect us with their own lives. The country celebrates these gallant heroes who lay down their lives for the motherland.

As we show our admiration, it is the collective duty of every citizen to make voluntary contribution towards providing care, support, rehabilitation and financial aid. Flag Day brings to the forefront our commitment of looking after our war disabled Soldiers, war widows and the families of Martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for the country.

Hence, we observe Armed Forces Flag Day to enlist public cooperation and support for three basic purposes:

  1. Rehabilitation of battle casualties.
  2. Resettlement and welfare of ex-servicemen and their families in general.
  3. Welfare of serving personnel and families in particular.

Let me also take this opportunity to remind ourselves that Mizoram has been for long a great contributor to the armed forces. This State has produced brave and dynamic men and women who served in the armed forces, bringing glory to both our country and the State of Mizoram.

Every year, on Flag Day, a fund collection drive is launched throughout Mizoram. However, due to the pandemic, usual collection from the public could not be done last year. Nevertheless, a total of almost Rs.70,000/- was collected from Government offices in the last Flag Day. The funds collected are being utilized to provide financial assistance to needy ex-servicemen and war widows.

It is my earnest appeal to all the members of the society, the businessmen, government servants and every individual to contribute and donate generously for the welfare of our service personnel. Let us remember with reverence those who sacrificed their lives for the country and ensure their loved ones are well looked after.

We must remember that no contribution is too big or too small. As the saying goes, “Little drops of water make the mighty ocean”. Therefore, I once again urge all the citizens to contribute as convenient on this Armed Forces Flag Day.

Thank you.
