INDEPENDENCE DAY 2024 MESSAGE
My dear people of Mizoram,
CHIBAI
I greet you all on this joyous 78th Independence Day of our great Nation. On this solemn occasion, we recall with reverence and gratitude the countless Freedom fighters who struggled for our Independence. I join the whole Nation in paying our utmost respects to these heroes.
Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji has declared our aim of becoming a Viksit Bharat by the year 2047. In order to attain a Viksit Bharat, we must first strive to become a Viksit Mizoram. Towards this end, I appeal to all the people of Mizoram to contribute to the best of our abilities so that we can achieve our dream of becoming a developed country.
I am happy to share that I have completed three years as the Governor of Mizoram. During this time, I have tried my best to play my part in the development of our State and our Nation. Having seen the massive potential of Mizoram in various sectors, I am convinced that we can achieve so much more with our talents and resources.
As we all know, we are a financially-challenged State, where resource mobilization is extremely difficult. In such a scenario, the common masses must be aware that there are many social security schemes available under the Central Government. I urge the people to enquire about these schemes from the concerned authorities, including the banks and other officials.
One major hindrance in the infrastructure of our State is connectivity issue. I look forward to the completion of the Bairabi-Sairang Railway line, which will be an immense game-changer. At the same time, I am disappointed that in spite of massive funding from the Central Government, a few road projects have not taken off. Notably, the 4-laning of the Vairengte-Sairang National highway, which is the lifeline of Mizoram, has remained stuck. All of us must remember that basic infrastructure such as roads are critical for any development to take place.
I firmly believe that we can contribute to ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ in various sectors, such as fisheries, oilseed production, etc. Fisheries in particular is an area with huge potential, because of the profitable local market as well as the demand from neighbouring states. I encourage all the stakeholders to take up these economic activities, under which financial support can be availed from the Central Government.
The power sector is another area in which our potential remains unfulfilled. Here, I appeal to all the people of Mizoram to consider the subsidized rooftop solar scheme of the Central Government called PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. I am very happy to learn that the State Government is giving additional subsidy under this Scheme in addition to the Central subsidy. I urge all the stakeholders to make the PM Surya Ghar Yojana a grand success, as this will lead to economic savings for the households, while contributing to generation of clean power.
As we speak about development, we know that peace is absolutely crucial. Our State is bounded by two countries which are currently in political turmoil. It is to the great credit of the people of Mizoram that we have remained an island of peace in a sea of violence. I congratulate and urge all of you to maintain this valuable peace.
In conclusion, let us rededicate ourselves to uphold the ideals and values that our freedom fighters died for. Let us resolve to achieve of Viksit Bharat and a Viksit Mizoram.
Once again, I wish all of you a Happy Independence Day.
KA LAWM E.
