My dear people of Mizoram
CHIBAI
It gives me great pleasure to spend my first Christmas in this beautiful State of Mizoram. Having been here for around half a year, I express my gratitude for the love and hospitality shown by the people of Mizoram. I convey my heartiest greetings for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the residents of Mizoram.
Christmas is a joyous occasion. It is a time when we
celebrate peace and goodwill to men. We celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ,
who was sent by God to reconcile mankind with Him. As such, we must also
emulate this act of reconciliation, and learn to forgive one another. Let us all
try to live together peacefully, irrespective of differences in language or
community.
It is also a matter of great pride for the State of
Mizoram that we have just concluded a peaceful general election. In keeping
with our tradition of being one of the most peaceful states in India, we have yet
again shown the rest of the country how to conduct a model, peaceful, free and
fair election. In this regard, I congratulate all the stakeholders, including
the government machinery and all sections of the civil society.
As Christmas is a time for celebration, it is also fitting that we are celebrating the formation of a new Government. The peaceful transition of power in the State displays the beauty and strength of our democracy. While congratulating the new Government, I make an appeal to all the people to work and cooperate with the Government. I am also certain that the Opposition will continue to play an important role through constructive approach.
The year 2018 continued to be a great year for Mizoram
in the world of sports. N.T Lalbiakkima, the Mizo boxer, defeated the World No.
1 and Olympic Gold Medalist at the Kazakhstan President’s Cup. Lalremsiami, the
18-year old hockey player, was instrumental as India won the Silver Medal at
both the Asian Games and the Youth Olympic Games. Jeremy Lalrinnunga, the
weighlifter, became the first Indian to win Gold at the Youth Olympics. These
and many others made 2018 a memorable year for Mizoram.
As we look forward to the year 2019, I am filled with optimism and great hope. I once again make a fervent appeal to all the citizens to work closely with the Government, as we attempt to scale new heights in terms of development. On a personal note, I strongly feel that we should exploit our immense potential in the fields of agriculture, horticulture, food processing, tourism, education, handloom and handicrafts industries, and others.
In the New Year, I would also like all the people of
Mizoram to take great care of their health. It is strange that while we are
performing well in terms of different social indicators and human resource
development, we have a very dismal record in terms of health.
Let us all take a resolution to make our state Healthy
as well as a clean, green, & bio region, so that every citizen will get a
feel of contentment.
In conclusion, I once again wish all the wonderful people of Mizoram a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
