The Minister of State for Fisheries Pu K.Lalrinliana met Mrs. Rajni Sekhri Sibal, Secretary, Fisheries Department, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying at her office chamber in New Delhi yesterday.

Pu K.Lalrinliana had a discussion with the Union Secretary regarding a Detailed Project Report submitted by the Mizoram Government on March 15, 2019, under the Blue Revolution Scheme. The Union Secretary said that the Ministry has approved the DPR and the amount allocated under this scheme for Mizoram for the year 2019-2020 is being increased to Rs. 6.11 crore, surpassing the tentative amount initially projected for the State. A sanction order amounting to Rs. 276 lakhs was handed over to the Minister.

The Minister also submitted a new DPR totalling Rs.1604 lakhs to the Ministry which, he said, would help advance the development and sustainability of fish farming in Mizoram.  The Secretary said that the proposal will be examined and discussed with the National Fisheries Development Board, Hyderabad. The Secretary is also open to the Minister’s idea of setting up large scale prawn and crab farming in Mizoram, saying that she will send fisheries scientists to the State as and when necessary. Responding to the Minister’s invitation, the Union Secretary said that she will soon visit Mizoram to observe and have a first-hand experience of fisheries development in the state.
