Kolasib Deputy Commissioner Pu Zoengsanga today launched the Mizoram Cleanliness Competition 2019 for Kolasib District.
The Launching Programme was chaired by District Urban Development Officer PC Zonuntluangi who highlighted the Concept of the Competition where she stated that cleanliness competition in urban Mizoram emerges from the vision of Swachh Bharat Mission (urban) to clean up all India’s cities and towns. And as a way to bring about the needful changes for the overall development and to foster a spirit of healthy competition among the towns, The Mizoram Sanitation Task Force has decided that cleanliness competition must be organized to assess urban towns in Mizoram on their levels of cleanliness and the first-ever cleanliness competition in Mizoram (Urban) was organized by UD & PA Department in the year 2017 and it has been continued since.
The main activities to be performed during the Competition are Maintenance of Drains (Natural & Man-made) & White – Washing (Retaining Walls); Community participation: To galvanize the community towards a cleaner community and engage them in such a way to inculcate the benefits of a healthy environment in the community; individual Household Latrines / toilets & public Toilets: To inform and aid any household without individual/ household latrines/ toilets to construct their own toilets; Waste Segregation at source: segregation of waste in to wet, dry and hazardous waste at source in each household; IEC Activity: information, education & communication activities to promote, sensitize and mobilize the community etc.
All the urban towns will be ranked based on their levels of cleanliness and initiatives to fulfill the objectives of Swachh Bharat Mission , there will be three separate awards for Overall cleanest town, Category 1 (district headquarters) and category 2 (other towns) where overall cleanest town will be awarded cash prize of INR 1 lakh and memento, Category 1 and 2 first prize to be awarded INR 1 lakh and memento, Category 1 and 2 second prize to be awarded INR 80,000 and memento, Category 1 and 2 third prize to be awarded INR 40,000 and memento.
Spot-Verification and Assessment will be conducted between the 1st of September to the 20th of September.
