Sports & Youth Services Department felicitates Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, 2019-a Under-14 boys category champion team Saidan Secondary School, Kolasib at MJA Conference  Hall in Aizawl today.

Robert Romawia Royte, Sports & Youth Services Minister, in his congratulatory speech lauds the achievements of Mizoram under-14 Football Team who are also the product of Sports & Youth Services Department run Regional Sports Training Centre Football Academy at Saidan, Kolasib. The Minister said that the Training Centre will be upgraded by handing it over to Sports Authority of India (SAI) and he also said that  laying of artificial turf at the Academy’s playground has already been started by SAI. He also said that Incentive Scheme Rules for sportspersons in being revised and  the government is keen to provide good  incentives to meritorious sportspersons.

The diamond Jubilee edition of Subroto Cup International Football Tournament, 2019 for under-14 boys was played between  21st August 2019 and 29th  August 2019 in New Delhi. Saidan Secondary School, Kolasib which represented Mizoram defeated all their opponents on their way yo win the tournament. The team defeated the defending champion Unique Model Academy of Manipur by a margin of 2-0 in the final. Mizoram Team scored 44 goals and conceded 3 during the tournament and Romalsawma and Lalbulliana of Mizoram team were declared Best Player and Best Coach of the Tournament respectively. Saidan Secondary School, Kolasib has also been declared Best School at the Tournament. Officials from All India Football Federation watched the Tournament from semi final stage and seven players from the champion team were earmarked by them for trial at the AIFF Academy.

The Mizoram school took home the winners' prize purse of Rs 3,00,000/-   while The Best Player Award, Best Coach and Best school Award carried Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 25,000/- respectively.

The diamond jubilee edition of the Subroto Cup - Asia’s largest youth football tournament witnessed a record participation from 112 teams including 16 international teams vying for the coveted winner’s prize in the sub-junior boys (U-14), junior (U-17) boys & girls categories. 36 teams including 5 international teams from Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, Bangladesh and Afghanistan participated in the under 14 boys category

The tournament is organised by the Subroto Mukerjee Sports Education Society under the aegis of Air Force Sports Control Board and is supported by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Human Resource Development and the Sports Authority of India.
