Aizawl 5th September,2023: Mizoram Chief Secretary Dr. Renu Sharma, IAS today inaugurated the 34th Annual Mizoram Civil services Sports & Cultural Association (MCSS&CA) Sports Meet at Govt. Mizo High School Multipurpose Hall in which various sports discipline- Chess, Carrom, Badminton, Table Tennis and Chinese Checker is scheduled to be played.

Dr. Renu Sharma stated that as India Celebrates National Sports Day recently on the 29th August, 2023 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the hockey legend Maj Dhyan Chand which is a Day dedicated to the nation’s sport heroes and champions honoring their contribution and dedication toward bringing laurels to the country with the aim to raise awareness about the values of sports, discipline, perseverance, sportsmen spirit, team work, and to encourage public in large to take up sports and make it an integral part of their lives while emphasizing on the importance of being fit and healthy and that Sports now has become priority of the government.

The aim of Mizoram Civil Services Sports & Cultural Association (MCSS&CA), which is affiliated to the Central Civil Services Cultural & Sports Board, as the name implies, is to organize Annual Sports Meet comprising of various sport disciplines and cultural activities for employees of the State Government for promotion of sports and preservation of culture, create awareness amongst the employees about the virtue of physical fitness, value of customs, traditions, practices and the need to reduce stress and tension of the present day fast-paced life through sports and cultural activities, added in her remarked.

It is remarkable that the MCSS&CA, since its inception in 1988 is organizing Annual Sport Meet with success except in the year 1999 and also in the year 2020 and 2021 due to pandemic Covid-19, she added.

As the Patron of the Association, she announced that competitions on cultural items will be organized during 14th-16th February, 2024 in the 2nd Phase of the Annual Sports Meet 2023-24 for which the govt has already given us permission. She also invited all the eligible Departments to participate in the forthcoming competitions as well.

She requested all the athletes to participate in this event in true spirit of sports and show fairness, respect and generosity to the opposing team and players in the interest of sports.

Commenting on the spirit of sports she urged all the players to Remember that – “The important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win, but to take part; the important thing in life is not to the triumph, but the struggle; the essential thing is not to have conquered but to have fought well”

She hope these tournaments not only provide opportunity to the State Government employees to meet and interact with each other in the field of sports, but also help in fostering a spirit of fraternity, comradeship and integration in official works as well.

She wished everyone and all the participating teams the best of luck as she concluded her speech.

The opening ceremony programme was chaired by Dr. Chawngthanchhunga, Sr.Vice President, MCSS&CA. A report from Pu. Rosangliana, Gen.Secretary, MCSS&CA was heard and the function ended with a oath taking.
