The 2nd Convocation of Mizoram’s National Institute of Technology was held at Mizoram University Auditorium, Tanhril yesterday with the Governor of Mizoram Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan gracing the occasion as Chief Guest. Both former UPSC Chairman Prof. D.P. Agarwal and IIT, Hyderabad Director Prof. U.B. Desai attended the Convocation as Guests of Honour. 

Addressing the convocation, Shri Kummanam Rajasekharan said that graduation is a time to celebrate while it marks the end of one phase and the beginning of another. He congratulated the students for their hard work, determination and discipline. He said it was a proud moment for them, and also their parents and teachers who played a great part for the end result. The Governor said it is not enough to simply try and get by in life, and urged them to continue to excel, set higher standards, and create new benchmarks in performance, innovation and excellence. He asked the students to step out of their comfort zone and become fearless to achieve their goals. He also urged them to continuously update their knowledge and skills to deliver substantive outcomes. As young technocrats, he called upon them to take pledge in making full use of technology for the benefit of mankind and become creator of job opportunities for the deprived section of the society. 

Guest of Honour Prof. D.P. Agarwal said that the students were living in a time of great change and are witnessing India to be the top in the world. He said that there are opportunities but only for those who can exploit them, willing to work hard, determined and remain committed to the values given to them. He also said that commitment to excellence, to justice and fair play, to hard work and team spirit will stand them in good stead He asked them to set their aspirations and goals clearly, set them high and make the best use of them. 

Meanwhile, Prof. U.B. Desai said that they must aspire to become net contributor of high technology through innovation, and there is no better place than India to be an innovator. He said that they must become active contributors in shaping the new world, full of challenges and develop courage to embark on the unknown. He also said that ethics is eroding nowadays and therefore ethical approach is important in everything they do. He urged them to believe in themselves and make India a great nation.

Prof. Rajat Gupta, Director of NIT Mizoram gave a report of the Institute’s achievement during the past few years. The 2nd Convocation saw 171 students who graduated during the years 2015-16, 2016-17 and 2017-18 conferred with degrees - 165 students in B. Tech, 5 students in M. Tech and 1 student in Ph.D.
