Hon'ble Governor of Mizoram P.S. Shreedharan Pillai flew in to Lunglei town, the capital of Lunglei District in southern Mizoram, for a one day visit today. This is his maiden visit to the District. He was received at Kawmzawl helipad by Lunglei DC Pu Kulothungan A, Lunglei SP Pu Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng & other officials. After receiving Guard of Honour from 2nd Battalion MAP at the helipad, the Governor and his team proceeded to Circuit House, Lunglei for a meeting and interaction program with all Heads of Offices within Lunglei District.

Greeting the gathering of Head of Offices of Lunglei District, the Governor expressed his delight in finally being able to visit Lunglei District, after his earlier plan last year was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He invited the officials present to highlight their achievements and air their concerns and issues faced, in a free and open manner. He congratulated the District administration on their prompt and efficient handling of various challenges during the Covid-19 pandemic, while also thanking NGOs, Churches, VCs and the general public for their massive contribution towards fighting the pandemic. Commenting on the illustrious history of Lunglei District, the Governor stated that the District would continue to occupy a vital position in the State’s various development initiatives, and he encouraged those present to work towards promoting self reliance and sustainable development. In the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat, government and concerned officials should pursue policies that are efficient, competitive and resilient, and being self-sustaining and self-generating, he added.

At this meeting, Lunglei DC Pu Kulothungan A gave a presentation on the District profile and important developmental works in the District, while Lunglei SP Pu Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng spoke about the law & order and security scenario in the District. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Pu R. Vanrengpuia, Additional DC. Child singing sensation, Esther Lalduhawmi Hnamte of College Veng, Lunglei performed at this event.

The meeting was followed by a program of interaction with NGOs, religious leaders and political leaders within Lunglei District.

After this, the Governor and team visited Bethel Centre (orphanage) at Chhumliankawn and Christian Hospital Serkawn before proceeding to the helipad at Kawmzawl.
