Lunglei the 10th May, 2023 - Hon'ble Governor of Mizoram Dr. Hari Babu Kambhampati flew in to Lunglei town, the capital of Lunglei District in southern Mizoram, for a one day visit today. This is the Hon’ble Governor’s maiden visit to the District, and he was accompanied by Lady Governor Dr Jayshree Kambhampati.

The Hon’ble Governor was received at Kawmzawl helipad by Lunglei DC Pi Ramdinliani, 2nd Battalion MAP Commandant Pu Saidingliana & other officials. After receiving Guard of Honour from 2nd Battalion MAP at the helipad, the Governor and his team proceeded to Lunglei DC Office for a meeting and interaction program with all Heads of Offices and Bank Managers within Lunglei District.

Greeting the gathering of Head of Offices & Bank Managers of Lunglei District, the Governor expressed his delight in finally being able to visit Lunglei District, and expressed hope that the discussions and deliberations during his visit would go a long way in getting into the root social & economic issues in the District. The Governor spoke in depth about various Central Government Welfare Schemes such as Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY), Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal pension Yojana (APY), Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) etc, and encouraged key stakeholders present to make concerted efforts to raise public awareness so that more citizens of Lunglei District can take advantage of these schemes. 

The Hon’ble Governor also highlighted that more efforts need to me made to increase the enrolment in Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV), Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and Kendriya Vidyalaya so that students from far flung corners of the District can benefit from these Central Government initiatives. The Governor highlighted that mobile and internet connectivity are crucial elements for development, and thus requested the BSNL officials and District administration to take up implementation of 4G Saturation project and BharatNet Project on a mission mode in Lunglei District. He also stated that stakeholders should continue to work towards providing the youth of Mizoram with employment opportunities, and encouraged DDU-GKY Scheme, Polytechnic and ITI to look beyond mere training, and work towards having an industry linkage so as to provide employment opportunities for these youths. He encouraged all those present to go out of their way to educate citizens on various Government schemes, and organize awareness and enrolment programs as and when possible. Commenting on the illustrious history of Lunglei District, the Governor stated that the District would continue to occupy a vital position in the State’s various development initiatives, and he encouraged those present to work towards promoting social welfare schemes and sustainable development. 

At this meeting, Lunglei DC Pi Ramdinliani gave a presentation on the District profile and important developmental works in the District, while 2nd Battalion MAP Commandant Pu Saidingliana spoke about the law & order and security scenario in the District. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks from Additional Deputy Commissioner Pu Donny Lalruatsanga. 

The meeting was followed by a program of interaction with NGOs, PMMY beneficiaries, Lunglei Municipal Council Councilors, religious leaders and political leaders within Lunglei District. The Hon’ble Governor had a fruitful interaction with these groups, and they discussed wide ranging issues such as setting up of Mizoram University Southern Campus in Lunglei, water supply shortage in the District, implementation of Lunglei Greater Water Supply Scheme, plan of action of the newly elected Lunglei Municipal Council, the recent outbreak of violence in neighboring Manipur State, and implementation of key welfare schemes of the Central Government. 

At his meeting with Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) beneficiaries and Bankers, the Hon’ble Governor stated that the Scheme was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on April 8, 2015 to create an inclusive, sustainable and value based entrepreneurial culture in India. He encouraged the stakeholders present to implement the scheme diligently, and invited the beneficiaries to be ambassadors for the scheme.

The Hon’ble Governor also visited the 20 Bn BSF Hqrs at Zotlang, and also visited Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana beneficiaries at their residence in Pukpui & Zotlang localities respectively. He had a fruitful interaction with these beneficiaries.

To honour the Hon’ble Governor’s visit to Lunglei District, the office of the Deputy Commissioner organized a Cultural Program at the DC Bungalow lawn. Cultural troupes from Mizo Cultural Artist Association (MCAA) and Mizoram Gorkha Youth Association (MGYA) performed at this function.

The Hon’ble Governor and his team will depart for the neighboring Hnahthial District tomorrow.
