Mizoram Govt. sponsored press team has visted NEIGRIHMS on 7th February. The team as part of the programme is visiting tourist attractions in Meghalaya to get insights on eco tourism apart from visiting few of the prominent Institutes in Shillong.


The team was lead by Mr Malsawmsanga, MIS, PRO to his Excellency the Governor of Mizoram and the team consisted of 11 members and the visit was coordinated by Mr.Joshep, Asst. Resident Commissioner, Mizoram House, Shillong. Prof.Daniela, HOD Radiology dept.  facilitated the visit from NEIGRIHMS side. The team had a formal meeting with the NEIGRIHMS authorities. 


Prof.D.M. Thappa, the Director welcomed the team and gave a brief on the upcoming projects of Regional Cancer Center, Medical College Building, the Hostel facility apart from the efforts directed towards hiking annual intake of MBBS & BSc Nursing studets from present 50 students per anum to 100. The visiting team was also been appraised of the proposed new PG courses in ENT,Ophthalmology, Dermatology, Forensic Medicine, Pharmacology and Biochemistry. 


Mr.David T Umdor, the Deputy director of the Institute  informed the team about the progress the Institute has made since shifting to the present campus in 2006. The concerns of the Institute in terms of faculty availability and the firm belief of the Institute in providing higher educational avenues to the locals by having more seats in MBBS and Medical PG Courses apart from running Nursing and paramedical Courses. He maintained that to sustain the Institutional requirements in the light of AIIMS like Institutes coming up across India, which may open up opportunities for the faculty working from other states at present in NEIGRIHMS, it is essential to have the local talent nutured. 

Dr. Noor Topno,The Medical Superintendent elaborated on the services of the hospital, the foot prints of the OPD and the bed strength and especially the tertiary referral center stature of the Institute. To the delight of the visitors Dr. Topno explained on the recognition of the institute as the cleanest hospital in India which is possible only because of culture and traditions of the patient community which ensures the cleanliness apart from the dedicated staff of the Institute.


The team  made a detailed tour of the hospital and interacted with the patients too. The team  expressed their happiness about free treatment extended and expressed concerns about patients staying facilities and interstate transport.
