Mizoram Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (TRIFED) to implement Van Dhan Scheme under Pradhan Mantri Van Dhan Yojana which was launched in April 2018. The agreement was signed by Secretary, Cooperation Department Shri J.P. Agarwal on behalf of the Government of Mizoram and by Shri A. D. Mishra, Regional Manager (Guwahati) TRIFED in presence of Cooperation Minister Pu C. Lalrinsanga at his office at Mizoram New Capital Complex (MINECO).

Lauding the signing of the agreement Pu C. Lalrinsanga who is also the Agriculture Minister said that once the Scheme is implemented the rural population, especially tribal people who depend on minor forest produces for their livelihoods will benefit the most which in turn will help the economy of Mizoram to grow further, he added. He pointed at the importance of converging government schemes so that duplicity is avoided which can help accelerate growth and development.

Across Mizoram, 43 Van Dhan Kendras will be set up, Primary Cooperative Societies will be designated as these Kedras. Each Kendra will have maximum of 15 Self Help Groups (SHGs). Each SHG will receive an cash assistance of Rs. 1 lakh and a sum of Rs. 50,000 as working capital.

TRIFED has already signed agreements with four other North Eastern States to implement Van Dhan Scheme. Meghalaya is also expected to sign an agreement this week.
