Aizawl, the 24th January 2022 : Lunglei DEF & Hnahthial DEF, along with the rest of the State, observed the 50th Raising Day of Mizoram Police on 21st January (Friday) with Pu Rex Zarzoliana Vanchhawng, SP, Lunglei and Pu Lalbiakkila, Hnahthial SP at their respective headquarters.

The day was observed with much ceremony and zeal throughout the State, with the police force handing out charity gifts to hospitals, homes and orphanages within their jurisdiction. The Chief Minister of Mizoram Pu Zoramthanga unveiled the Mizoram Police Monument in honor of the 50th Raising Day at Police Headquarters, Aizawl.

Prior to the year 1972, the police force in Mizoram was under the jurisdiction of the then Superintendent of Lushai Hills, who was assisted by one Dy.SP. With the attainment of UT Status on 21st January 1972, Mizoram Police was constituted, with Mr. I.J. Verma as the first Inspector General of Police (I.G.P.) of Mizoram.

The administrative control of Mizoram Police vests with the Home Minister of Mizoram, with overall supervision and coordination of Police done by the Home Department, Government of Mizoram. Mizoram is divided into eleven Districts, with each District headed by one Superintendent of Police. Mizoram Police has three Police Ranges namely Northern Range, Southern Range, and the recently constituted Eastern Range, which are headed by a Deputy Inspector General of Police.

Mizoram Police, under its umbrella, incorporates of 11 Police districts – all of whom together comprises of 17 Police Sub-Divisions, 43 Police stations and 13 Police outposts, 3 Mizoram Police Battalions, 5 India Reserve Battalions , CID (Crime), CID (SB), MPRO, Aizawl Traffic Unit, Fire and Emergency Services and Security unit.
