Aizawl, the 14th of June, 2024: Mizoram Sports Conclave 2024, a two-day nationwide sports conference which mooted the road ahead for athletes from Mizoram to participate in the 2036 Olympics came to a close today at Baptist Centre, Falkland in Aizawl. Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma, who inaugurated the Mizoram Sports Conclave yesterday, said that Vision Olympics 2036 will be included in the government's policy.
Pu Shakliar Warjri, Meghalaya Sports Minister and Pi Nandita Garlosa, Assam Sports Minister; sports administrators, experts and senior officials from Reliance Foundation, Tata Trusts and Jindal group. Services Sports Control Board officials, officials of sports federations and associations in India, representatives of the Indian Olympic Association, as well as prominent sports journalists and athletes from home and abroad attended the two day event.
The second day of the Mizoram Sports Conclave continued with the discussion of various topics related to the 2036 Olympic Games. The Conclave was divided into seven sessions. Speeches by government leaders, sports administrators and experts, panel discussions and question and answer sessions were held. Chief Minister Pu Lalduhoma inaugurated the conclave in the first session. Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar, Sports Minister outlined the Government's plan to ensure maximum participation of athletes from Mizoram in the 2036 Olympic Games.
In the second session, Pu Shakliar Warjri, Meghalaya Sports Minister and Pi Nandita Garlosa, Assam Sports Minister in their speeches dwelt on various aspects of sports administration and participation in the 2036 Olympics while in the third session, representatives of Reliance Foundation, Tata Trusts and Jindal Group presented an interesting and insightful discussion on the role of the private sector in the development of athletes.
In the fourth session, CMDE Varun Singh, Secretary, Services Sports Control Board and Grand Master Prof. Hee do Kim (Taekwondo Olympic Medalist, South Korea) spoke about the responsibilities of families and communities for the success of athletes and the importance of a vibrant and sustainable sports ecosystem were also discussed.
In the fifth session, leaders of Indian sports associations/federations - Indian Olympic Association, Indian Weightlifting Federation, Wrestling Federation of India, Boxing Federation of India and Table Tennis Federation of India discussed the responsibility of sports federations in developing Olympians.
Session six was attended by Mrs. Monalisa Baruah Mehta, National Champion, Table Tennis and Mr. Mukul Choudhary, Chief of Sports, Tata Steel Ltd. They highlighted the importance of support systems for athletes during their difficult times and the importance of family, school and community in developing Olympians.
In the last session, two Olympians from Mizoram - Pu C. Lalremsanga (Archery) and Nl. Lalremsiami (Hockey) also expressed their views on sports development in Mizoram and shared their personal experiences.
Sports & Youth Services Minister Pu Lalnghinglova Hmar in his concluding remarks hoped that the Conclave would yield positive results for the development of athletes in Mizoram and India. He also expressed his gratitude to all the invitees and sports associations for coming forth with valuable suggestions. The Minister said that the Mizoram Sports Conclave will focus on sports disciplines that Mizoram excels in so that chances of Mizoram’s representation in the 2036 Indian Olympic Team can be increased.
Pu Lalramsanga Sailo, IRS Sports & Youth Services Department Director Pu Lalnunhlua and Mizoram State Sports Council Secretary Pu John Tanpuia were present at the concluding session of the Conclave.
