Aizawl, the 26th January 2023: Joining the nationwide celebration of the 74th Republic Day, the celebrations were also held at the capital, the district headquarters and important towns in Mizoram. This year, the celebration programs returned with the marching of parade contingents, the crowds and the felicitations segment. In Aizawl city where the biggest celebration was held, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati unfurled the National Flag and returned the salute to the National Flag by the Parade contingents.

In his Republic Day address, the Governor extends his warm greetings to all the people of Mizoram. On this auspicious occasion, he urged everyone to remember with deep gratitude to the freedom fighters that it was on this day that due to the hard work of our founding fathers, we gave to ourselves a Constitution to secure justice, liberty, and equality for all citizens.

He opened his address with the three key initiatives under the state during the last and the current fiscal year – the continuing implementation of the Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP), the successful hosting of the 10th International Tourism Mart for the North Eastern States held in Aizawl last year and the G-20 Business Meeting to be hosted by the state in March 2023.

In his core address for the Republic Day, he detailed only some of the achievements made by the State Government.

After the official Republic Day address by the Governor, the felicitation program was conducted.

It was announced with great pride that Pi KC Runremsangi, a renowned folk singer and instructor of Art in Mizoram is being selected as one of the recipients of the prestigious Padma Shri Award for her contribution to the field of Art.

During the felicitation program this year, the results of the Mizoram Cleanliness Competition 2022 were announced. The list of the winners in different categories is shown below.

BSF, 225 Bn.CRPF, Sikkim Police, 5th IR.Bn, MRHG & CD, 2nd AR Pipe Band, 1 Mizo Battalion NCC, Mary Mount School Scout & Guide, 1st Bn.MAP English Medium Scout & Guide, Govt. Mizo High School, Ephraim HSS, Govt. Republic HSS, Govt. Chawnpui H/S, 1st Bn. MAP Brass Band, Staine’s Memorial HSS, Govt. Hrangchhuana H/S, Govt. Zuangtui H/S, Govt. J.L H/S, Govt. Chaltlang H/S, Govt. Comprehensive Model School, Govt. Zemabawk H/S, Mizoram Police Canine Squad and 3rd Bn. MAP Pipe Band were the contingents that participated in the Republic Day Parade this year.

The Governor also gave away prizes to the winners of the winning contingents from different categories. Among the armed contingents 2 Assam Rifles Bn, Sikkim Police and 1 Mizo Air squadron NCC came First, second and third. 1 Mizo Battalion NCC, 1st Bn.MAP English Medium Scout & Guide and Mizoram Police Canine Squad were the first, second and third in the unarmed category. Among School Contingents Govt. Zemabawk H/S, Staine’s Memorial HSS and Ephraim HSS were the first, second and third winners.

After the program at A.R. Ground was concluded, Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati hosted At Home’s program for the high officials and selected invitees at the Circular Lawn, Raj Bhavan.
