Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga today beckoned Mizos to treasure the hard earned peace that Mizoram has enjoyed for over 30 years. "The Mizoram Peace Accord signed in 1986 resulted in one of the most stable and time tested peace which have lasted till date. The people of Mizoram should continue to preserve it; moreover, only through peace can we have real and stable growth and development", he said. This speech was made today at AR Ground in Aizawl where the Chief Minister graced the Remna Ni celebration as chief guest. A number of Ministers and other Members of Parliament were present at the function.
Mizoram celebrates Remna Ni, a commemoration of the signing of Peace Accord every year on June 30th. The MZP organized the function ahead of the actual day since the 30th falls on a Sunday this year.
The MZP awarded honours to four personalities which it deems had made meritorious contribution towards the culmination of the Peace Accord. The awardees were Rev. Dr. Zairema, Rev. Dr. HS Luaia, Rev. Dr. Lalngurauva Ralte and Pu Lalduhoma, MLA. Similar awards had been given to choice personalities in the previous year's celebration.
Today's celebration witnessed leaders from the Joint NGO Coordination Committee and from different political parties like MPCC, ZPM, BJP and PRISM, with their respective representatives giving speeches. A grand Mass Cheraw was also performed by 21 schools.
