Aizawl, 7th February, 2022 : National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) organized an “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav” (AKAM) programme at DC’s Conference Hall, Lunglei on today. Shri Kulothungan A, IAS, Deputy Commissioner, graced the programme as Chief Guest. 


The AKAM event was organized with the theme “Achievements @ 75: Transforming Lives and NABARD's contribution in Mizoram”. Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav is an initiative of the Government of India to celebrate and commemorate 75 years of progressive India and the glorious history of it's people, culture and achievements.


In his address, Shri Kulothungan A, IAS appreciates the activities of NABARD, and its role in fostering rural prosperity. He said that Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav is an embodiment of all that is progressive about India's socio-cultural, political and economic identity. The official journey of "Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav" commenced on 12th March, 2021 which started a 75 week countdown to our 75th anniversary of Independence and will end post a year on 15th August, 2023. The Mahotsav is dedicated to the people of India who have not only been instrumental in bringing India thus far in it's evolutionary journey but also hold within them the power and potential to enable Honourable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision of activating India 2.0, fuelled by the spirit of Atmanirbhar Bharat. The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the contributions and achievements of NABARD in promoting sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural development through participative financial and non-financial interventions, innovations, technology and institutional development for securing prosperity. He also thanked NABARD for organizing the AKAM event and encouraged the various line departments, banks, NGOs, etc. to complement the good works done by NABARD in Lunglei District.


Pu Evan T Munsong, District Development Manager (DDM), NABARD gave a presentation on NABARD’s contribution towards promotion and development of agriculture, off-farm sector and other allied economic activities with a view to promoting integrated rural development and securing prosperity of rural areas in the state. 


In the event, NABARD’s development activities were also highlighted through testimonial videos prepared by NABARD. There was also interaction session on the achievements as well as strategy, convergence and synergy of development activities, for sustainable rural development in the district.


The programme was attended by District Agriculture Officer, Divisional Horticulture Officer, District Sericulture Officer, District Officer (Land Resources, Soil & Water Conservation),  Veterinary Officer (AH & Vety Department), MGNF, officials from SBI, NEDFi, MRB, and representatives of AMFU Welfare Foundation (AWF), NEIDA, Vanapa Society, World Vision India (WVI) and Ainawn SHG.
