Aizawl the 1st October, 2021 : Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD Lunglei) & YMA Chanmari Branch Lunglei jointly organized a programme in honor of ‘National Voluntary Blood Donation Day’ today at Chanmari Hall. Dr Lalramzauva, Director, Christian Hospital Serkawn graced the occasion as Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Lalramzauva, Director, Christian Hospital Serkawn complimented the AVBD Lunglei for organizing the event, and thanked them for their various initiatives to encourage more people to donate blood to save lives. Lauding the voluntary spirit of Mizo people, he stated that it is indeed a matter of great pride for the State that the cause of blood donation has been strongly taken up by the Government, educational institutes, Churches and various NGOs.

Members of Young Mizo Association, Chanmari Branch Lunglei will be donating blood in honor of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day 2021.

Association for Voluntary Blood Donation (AVBD Lunglei) was founded in the year 2001, and for the past 20 years has been at the forefront of voluntary blood donation initiatives across the District. In partnership with the two blood banks in the District – Civil Hospital Blood Bank and Christian Hospital Serkawn Blood Bank, AVBD Lunglei organizes awareness campaigns, blood donation camps and various drives across the District.

Observation of National Voluntary Blood Donation Day in India started on 1st October 1975, under the initiative of Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Immunohematology (established on 22nd October 1971) with the guidance of Mrs.K.Swaroop Krishen and Dr.J.G.Jolly. Since then, the 1st October of each year is being observed throughout the country as the National Voluntary Blood Donation Day. In the year 1996, National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) came forward to support the cause.
