Kolasib Dated the 8th March, 2021: International Women’s Day celebration was also organized by One Stop Centre, Women and Child Development today at the Parish Hall, Venglai, Kolasib. The event, which encompassed women from all walks of life residing within Kolasib District, aimed at acknowledging their achievements and making them more aware of their social and civil rights.


Speaking on the occasion, Nodal Officer Ms. Lalvenhimin highlighted the concept of women empowerment, saying that the main objective was to achieve equal rights and opportunity for all genders. She also stated that neglecting women's rights and not accepting their social roles and participation posed as major hurdles in achieving women empowerment. She further mentioned that women empowerment was not about merely fighting to stand above men but a fight against oppressions and inequality that women faced in general.
 
Ms. C. Zochhuanthangi, Case Worker at the One Stop Centre gave a brief report on the kind of cases usually registered at the Centre. There has been 7 cases of domestic violence on women in 2019, which increased to 35 in 2020 and 2 cases from January 2021 till date. As part of International Women’s Day celebrations, Ms. Baby VL Ruatkimi, DLA also imparted various legal advices on the rights and duties of women.
