Mr. P.C. Zoram Sangliana, Transport Minister yesterday presided over the Performance Review Meeting of the Transport Department held at the Horticulture Department's Conference Hall, under the Chairmanship of Mr. Dawngliana, Director, Transport Department. 
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. P.C Zoram Sangliana said that as a Department which meets the transportation needs of the people of Mizoram in a big way, its efficient working can improve the lives of the people.  He lauded the efforts of the officers and staff due to which the Department has now become among the few Departments that generate revenue for the Governement consistently, even surpassing the Revenue Targets. He called upon them to work with dedication, always keeping in mind that they are the ones who can improve the delivery services for the public. Regarding the issue of  Driving Licence and Fitness Certificate, he urged them to exercise caution, issue them according to existing  law and if anyone tries to exert undue pressure for its issue, to report the matter to the higher officers and even to him. Further, he announced that henceforth the ambulances of the Department can be hired to transport dead bodies to various parts of Mizoram at  the same rates as the Health Department.

He stressed upon the need to have re-structuring and modernization of the Department keeping in mind the changing times. He informed the officers that steps were being taken to acquire Test Driving Simulator and Weigh Bridges as these can generate additional revenued. He expressed his happiness in the Department's successful deployment of  14 new buses under the JNNURM to augment the transport services within Aizawl. In addition, he also distributed prizes to various DTO offices and Stations that had exceeded the Revenue Targets in various categories during the year 2008-09 and 2009-10.

Senior officers also addressed the meeting with regard to Mizoram State Transport (MST) services, Revenue Targets, Accounts Matter and Reports & Returns which was  followed by an interactive session amonsgt the attendees. The Transport Department highlighted that during 2009-10,they had surpassed the Revenue Target of Rs. 933 lakhs by Rs. 82.82 lakhs, making it Rs. 1015.82 lakhs.
