Aizawl, the 20th October 2021 : Mizoram Police Media Cell, Police Headquarters has issued the following Press Release on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day which is to be observed tomorrow.
October 21st is observed as 'Police Commemoration Day' throughout the country every year. The day commemorates supreme sacrifices of ten policemen in the line of duty defending national frontiers, when police patrol party was ambushed on 21st October, 1959 by the Chinese forces who crossed Aksai Chin area at Hot Springs (Ladakh) as a result of which 10 brave policemen were killed. The Government of India decided that this day October 21 would henceforth be observed as "Commemoration Day" throughout the country to mark the memory of these gallant men who were killed in Ladakh and all other Police personnel killed in the line of duty during the year. On this day every year, Commemoration Parades are held in all state capitals and district headquarters as a mark of respect to brave police martyrs, who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. The names of police martyrs throughout the country are read out, to pay homage to the martyrs and to acknowledge with pride the supreme sacrifices made by them. In the past one year from 1.9.2020 to 31.8.2021, 377 police personnel throughout the country have laid down their lives on the call of duty. No police personnel from Mizoram Police died in the lines of duty during the past year.
The main Police Commemoration Day Parade at the national level at the National Police Memorial, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi on 21st October, 2021 at 0800 hrs will be attended by Hon'ble Union Home Minister. Joint Police Parade will be organized by ITBP in which HC C.Lalsangmawia and C/359 Malsawmkima of Aizawl DEF will represent Mizoram Police as flag bearers. The function will be telecast live on DD News and live webcast will also be available on URL: https://webcast.gov.in/mba/ib/ which has been incorporated in the Mizoram Police Website (police.mizoram.gov.in) as hyperlink to enable visitors gain access to live webcast of the ceremony at NPM on 21st October, 2021.
Mizoram Police will also hold Commemoration Parades to pay tribute to the martyrs who have sacrificed their lives for service to the society and security of the nation on 21st October, 2021 7:00 AM at the state capital, district & battalion headquarters. The main parade and wreath-laying ceremony is at Martyrs Memorial, 1st Battalion MAP Headquarters, Aizawl where Hon’ble Chief Minister, DGP and Police officers will pay respect and homage to the martyrs. The names of 377 police martyrs who have laid down their lives on the call of duty during the past one year from 1.9.2020 to 31.8.2021 will be read out, to pay homage and acknowledge the supreme sacrifices made by them.
