A function was held today at the Lunglei DC Conference Hall to distribute Relief and Rehabilitation items to victims of natural disasters within Lunglei District. An initiative of The North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA), Tata Trust, the event was organized in collaboration with the Lunglei District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA).

Speaking on the occasion, Lunglei DC Pi K. Lalrinzuali thanked NEIDA, Tata Trust for their initiative and lauded their contribution towards the socio economic development of the state. She informed the gathering that she had worked closely with NEIDA during her tenure as Mission Director, Mizoram State Rural Livelihoods Mission and that their initiatives have been of immense help to thousands of families in Mizoram especially in the field of cabbage cultivation, oranges, livestock rearing etc. She also invited NEIDA to continue working in close connection with the District administration. Addressing the victims of natural disasters, she praised them for their strength in the face of adversity, and ensured them continued support from the District administration and DDMA. 

Dr James Lalthansanga, Programme Officer NEIDA Mizoram thanked the Lunglei DC and Lunglei District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) for facilitating distribution of Relief and Rehabilitation items to victims of natural disasters within Lunglei District. Stressing that the vision of NEIDA was to build an inclusive enabling environment for improving the quality of life in North-eastern region of India, he informed the gathering that 9000 families in Mizoram have benefited from various schemes and initiatives of NEIDA.

 22 families whose houses were fully/severely damaged were handed over water filter, silpaulin, rice bang and CGI sheets while 13 families with partially damaged houses were handed over water filter, silpaulin and rice bag. 10 life vests were also distributed to the YMA, Tlabung town, a highly flood prone area located in the western belt of the District.
