On 23rd August, 2023 at about 0930 hrs, under construction Railway bridge was collapsed near Sairang, Aizawl. Total 26 worker were present at the site during the tragic incident, out of which 22 workers were died, 03 workers were seriously injured and 01 is still missing.

On getting information, rescue team of 38 Battalion, Border Security Force, Sakawrtuichhun (Aizawl) reacted and reached to the spot with medical team and tracker dogs to exhibit example of humanity and extended helping hands for rescue operation to NDRF, State Administration and Police to evacuate and to find dead bodies in debris. 38 Battalion, Border Security Force provided their vehicle and nursing staffs for evacuation and retrieval of dead bodies from the spot/ debris. Tracker dog of BSF also searched and located dead bodies in debris. 18 dead bodies were recovered and 03 injured workers were admitted in Civil Hospital, Aizawl on 23 rd Aug’ 2023.

With the co-ordination of Civil Administration, BSF troops and canine conducted second day rescue and evacuation operation for searching and retrieval of remaining 05 workers on 24th August 2023 and further recovered 04 dead bodies on 24th Aug’2023 and 01 worker is still missing.

Nevertheless, the Border Security Force is dedicated for the security of borders of India as well as to extend helping hands to the citizens of India as its guided principle and ethos.
