The Minister of State for Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department Dr. K. Beichhua graced the quarterly review meeting of senior officers of AH & Veterinary Department at the AH & Vety Polyclinic Conference Hall in Aizawl, today. The Secretary of AH & Veterinary Department Pu Lalthangpuia Sailo chaired the meeting while the Director Dr.Hmarkunga gave an introductory speech.

 Addressing the review meeting, the AH & Vety Minister Dr.K.Beichhua said that the combined efforts of the AH&Vety Department and other different  government machineries including the border police and the Assam Rifles, and the overwhelming support of the civil society have resulted in the successful prevention of African swine fever from entering Mizoram. “No cases of African swine fever have been detected in the state so far”, he said. Reiterating the need to be vigilant against the fatal Porcine Reproductive and Respiratory Syndrome (PRRS) which killed thousands of pigs in Mizoram, he said that public support along with tireless efforts of the Department have succeeded in controlling outbreak of the disease.  In view of the coming Christmas celebrations, the Minister announced that ban on legal import of pigs and piglets from other states in India will be lifted from today onwards while continuing to maintain strict prohibition of illegal imports from the neighbouring countries. The Minister encouraged all participants to share their experiences, bring out innovative ideas and identify areas where the department needs to pull up.

During the meeting, various initiatives and achievements of the department were listed out and the department’s Vision 2023 was tabled. Detailed presentations regarding organizational structure, working of the department and the major activities being carried out by various wings of the department were made by District AH&Vety Officers, General Managers at Selesih and Thenzawl, Principal of IAH & VTI, Chief Veterinary Officers of Tlabung and Mambung, and the Joint Director of Southern Zone. An interaction session was held in the afternoon.
