Road Safety Week-2020, the 31st edition themed, ‘Obeying rules for Safety’ was inaugurated by Pu SL Naveen, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Champhai, today at DC Conference Hall. The weeklong Road Safety observance will be taking place during March 16-22, 2020.
Pu SL Naveen mentioned that every year around 2 lakhs people died in road traffic accidents. Any loss of life is tragic, through the campaign, public awareness and safety measures will be stressed to minimize fatality rate into zero. He also expressed his hope to make the Road Safety Week a true success and delivers its purposes.
The inaugural programme was presided over by Pu K.Lalhmuakliana, District Transport Officer (DTO) & Member Secretary, District Road Safety wherein Pu Joseph Lalhnehzela, Sub-Inspector, in-charge Traffic Champhai gave keynote address on the Road Safety Week. According to him, till today, three penalties have been given to 3 persons under MVI Act due to traffic violations, and there were 3 fatalities due to road accidents happened in 2019.
Pu K.Lalhmuakliana, DTO & Member Secretary, District Road Safety Committee concluded the programme by proposing vote of thanks, the inaugural programme was attended by members of Champhai District Road Safety Committee.
