Aizawl, 2.5.2022: The ongoing celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav 'North East Festival' in Mizoram was concluded for the day with a Round-up Session of "Roundtable on Untapped Eco-Tourism Potential and Role of Bamboo in the NE Region" at Dawrpui Multipurpose Hall, Aizawl. Chief Minister Pu Zoramthanga was the chief guest in the round up session.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister praised the Government of India for organizing a befitting celebration to commemorate 75th year of Indian independence. Showcasing the developments brought about by 75 years of freedom in every corner of the country and highlighting necessary develoment actions will be helpful in better understanding each other, he said. The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of developing bamboo in Mizoram and in North east as a whole. Finding ways to utilise these bamboo resources to their full potential and finding the best species of bamboo is essential, he said. With cooperation between states and Central government, North east region, through bamboo production and utilization, can be a huge contributor to the economic development of India, the Mizoram Chief Minister said.
Tourism Minister Pu Robert Romawia Royte also spoke of the tourism potential of Mizoram. Green tourism, sports and adventure tourism, religious tourism, etc. can take the economy of Mizoram to new heights, he said, inviting more private players to invest in the growing tourism industry.
The Chief Minister launched the magazine titled "Introducing Mizoram" which was a joint effort of Ministry of DoNR, NEC and Mizoram Govt (Planning and Programme Implementation Department). Stalls exhibiting handlooms & handicrafts made by entrepreneurs and artisans were set up on the occasion.
The round-up session saw Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary giving welcome address. Pu Saurabh Endley, Joint Secretary, Ministry of DoNER and Pi R. Lalrodingi, AKAM NEC Nodal Officer also gave short speeches. There was a presentation on Best Practices in the state, followed by Presentation on Eco-tourism and Round-up of the Roundtable on Eco-tourism was presented by Pu V. Lalengmawia, Director, Tourism Department, while Dr. Elizabeth Saipari, Director, Horticulture Department gave Presentation on Potential of Bamboo chungchang and Roundup of Roundtable on Bambo. Pu Lalmalsawma Pachuau, Secretary, Planning & Programme Implementation Department ended the session with a vote of thanks.
The session was followed by cultural show and presentation on Fairs & Festivals, organized by the Art & Culture Department.
