The International Literacy day 2019 was observed today at Aijal Club, Aizawl with the theme “ Literacy and Multilingualism” where the School Education Department Minister Mr Lalchhandama Ralte was the Chief guest and Mr L Thangmawia, MLA, Vice Chairman, Human Resource Development Board was the Guest of Honour of the function.

Mr Lalchhandama Ralte, School Education Department Minister on addressing the gathering gives highlight on the present scenario of literacy in the state, the importance of basic as well as digital literacy in our day to day lives and emphasised on the need to take part in the initiatives to increase literacy in the state which will soon be reflected in Census 2021. The minister make an appeal to the Church and Community leaders and all NGOs to lend their support in making Mizoram to become the most literate state before the upcoming census is carried out.

Today’s function was chaired by Mrs Lal Ruatkimi, Commissioner & Secretary, School Education Department, keynote address delivered by Mrs Lalzarmawii, Director and vote of thanks by Mr K laldingliana, Addl. Director. The function was continued with consultation meeting on literacy drive for Special Eradication of Illiteracy Project which was attended by officials from different department as well as representatives from Churches and NGOs.
