Serchhip the 3rd May, 2024: Pu David Lalthantluanga, Deputy Commissioner, Serchhip District conducted an early morning inspection in Thenzawl town today following heavy rainfall and hailstorm damage yesterday.

In Thenzawl Vengthar area, homes belonging to Pi Lalawmpuii, Pi Zohmangaihi, Pu Neinunga, and Pi Lalhmingmawii suffered extensive damage, with six other houses partially affected. Similarly, six houses in Thenzawl Venghlun were also partially damaged.

Pu David Lalthantluanga allocated Rs. 1,20,000 from the State Disaster Response Fund to households that suffered complete damage. The DC also provided financial aid from the SDRF to homes with partial damage, the amount varying based on the extent of the damage incurred.

The Serchhip District Disaster Branch Emergency Call Centre remained operational throughout the night to address emergent situations and coordinate relief efforts. Reports also surfaced of structural damages in Thinglian Village and Vanchengte. Within Serchhip town, Additional DC Pu James Lalnithanga handed over financial assistance to two partially damaged households.
