Dated Serchhip the 24th September, 2024 : The Serchhip ICDS Project held a vibrant Fruit Festival cum Sale today at the CDPO Conference Hall in P&E Veng, Serchhip, featuring the esteemed presence of SWTA & WCD Joint Secretary Pi Zonunthari as the Chief Guest.
Pi Zonunthari emphasized the crucial role of healthy eating habits in children's early development. She pointed out that the POSHAN Maah initiative is vital in addressing anemia among pregnant women, nursing mothers, and adolescents. “Good nutrition is essential for children to ward off diseases, promote growth, and enhance educational outcomes,” she remarked, urging collaborative efforts among various departments and community support to ensure the initiative's success.
The month-long Poshan Maah or Nutrition Month initiative in Serchhip included a variety of activities throughout September, such as Infant and Young Child Feeding training, anemia testing in partnership with the Health Department, Indigenous Sports events, and concluded with today’s Fruit Festival.
Pi Caryll Lalpari, CDPO of the Serchhip ICDS Project, chaired the opening program, while Dr. Lalnunsangi Pachuau, Medical Officer (AYUSH) at the District Hospital, provided insights on the health benefits of fruit consumption.
Attendees enjoyed a wide selection of fruits and fruit products, including jams, juices, squashes, and breads, showcased by local producers such as Zotui Orange Producer Company, Lellen Amla Processing, S&R Food, Darei Banana Food Processing Industry, and Kimkim Food Processing Industry.
