Perhaps for the first time Raj Bhawan organized a special function for children of orphanages, homes and a special school at the Circular Lawn of Raj Bhawan today. The special function was graced by the Governor Shri Vakkom Purushothaman and his wife Dr. Lily Purushothaman, the Chief Minister Pu Lal Thanhawla and his wife Smt. Lal Riliani besides the Addl. Chief Secretary Smt. Sathyavathy and other senior officials the Social Welfare Department.

Welcoming the children to Raj Bhawan, the Governor said the purpose of organizing the function was to make them feel that the Raj Bhawan just like other institutions in the state is accessible and that the Governor is not a secluded figure but is someone who can be approached if desired. Expressing his delight in the way, genuine concern and compassion for fellow humans is entrenched in the Mizo society, the Governor hoped that the spirit of Tlawmngaihna, the Mizo code of ethics would be kept alive and passed on through generations in the Mizo society.

Speaking the Children the Governor said ‘pursue noble ideas, dream lofty dreams and believe in your ability to attain them. He further said that children are the future of the state and the nation and urged the children to develop a positive attitude and acquire self confidence through hard work and dedication and not let difficulties deter their ambitions.

More than 200 children from Thutak Nupuitu Team (TNT), Zuangtui; Muanna In; Hermons’ Children Home; Gan Sabra; Motherless Babies’ Home of Salvation Army and of the MTP, Khatla; Friend of Children and the Gilead Special School attended the special function hosted by the Governor solely for these children. Dr. Lily Purushothaman and Smt. Lal Riliani also presented gifts to the children of various orphanages and homes on the occasion.
