Invitees, my dear students
Today, we celebrate the Ruby Jubilee of the Department of Psychology at Mizoram University.
It is a moment of pride and joy as we commemorate 40 years of academic excellence, research, and contributions to the field of psychology in Mizoram.
This occasion is also a celebration of the enduring power of psychology to transform lives and society.
The field of psychology holds a special place in the academic and social fabric of our nation. Understanding the human mind and emotions is crucial for building a harmonious and prosperous society.
Psychology has evolved over the years, and today, it plays a pivotal role in addressing the complex challenges of the modern world.
The department of Psychology was established in the year 1983 under the erstwhile Mizoram Campus of North Eastern Hill University.
The department presently conducts Post-Graduate with specialization in Counseling and Clinical Psychology; and Ph.D. Programmes with a vision of “Academic Excellence in Reinforcing Teaching of Behavioral Sciences with Authentic Research Finding, to provide Psychological Services”.
The department has seen 34 batches with 650 postgraduate degrees. 44 research scholars have been awarded their doctoral degrees, while 27 have been awarded their M.Phil degrees.
The National Education Policy was implemented in the Department in 2022 with field work as part of the curriculum. The Curriculum Stipulated Study Tour has provided opportunities for students to have training in renowned institutions all over India.
The Department has collaborated over the years with several agencies, and has also conducted numerous International and National Conferences.
As we celebrate the past accomplishments of this esteemed department, we also look forward to the future. With advancements in technology and the evolving societal dynamics, the role of psychology becomes even more critical.
We need to adapt and innovate to address emerging issues, such as mental health, digital well-being, and societal harmony.
In a world facing numerous challenges, psychology has become even more relevant.
The recent global pandemic has highlighted the importance of mental well-being.
Psychologists have been at the forefront, helping individuals cope with stress, anxiety, and trauma.
The work of psychologists extends into schools, workplaces, and communities, where they promote resilience, emotional intelligence, and positive mental health.
I urge the faculty members and students to continue their pursuit of knowledge and excellence. You must embrace research that not only informs but transforms lives.
Let us work towards building a society where mental health is a priority, and individuals thrive emotionally, socially, and intellectually.
Furthermore, I encourage interdisciplinary collaborations within the University and with other institutions.
Integration of knowledge across diverse domains will lead to comprehensive solutions to the challenges we face today.
In conclusion, I once again congratulate the Department on this significant milestone.
I wish that the next 40 years are even more fruitful.
May the Psychology Department at Mizoram University continue to thrive for many more jubilees.
Thank you.
Jai Hind.
