Headquarters 23 Sector Assam Rifles today organised a felicitation programme at Loch Hall within the precincts of 46 Assam Rifles, Aizawl  for team members of the Mizoram U-19 Girls Team who recently lifted the Assam Rifles organized North East States Under-19 Championship held during July 17-21 at Diphu and Kohima.

Sports Minister Shri Robert Romawia Royte presided over the function and lauded the efforts of the team members and the support provided by the Assam Rifles. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister highlighted the role football has played in connecting the North Eastern states with the rest of the country and said that it is an important tool in strengthening national integration and in helping the region mainstream with the rest of the country. 

Appreciating the cooperation between the Mizoram Government and Mizoram Football Association (MFA) in furthering the cause of football, the Minister expressed hope that this partnership will grow stronger and reach new heights in the coming days. He said that the Government will support MFA and other sports organizations and associations in all the possible way whether through financial assistance or otherwise. He pointed that for the first time ever Mizoram will soon have a comprehensive sports policy ‘Mizoram Sports Policy’ and through this policy Mizoram will achieve accolades in sports, he added.

The Minister also spelt out new initiatives in the pipeline for development of football in the state and said that Flood Lighting and other works of Rajiv Gandhi Stadium to meet international standards will soon be completed.

MFA President Shri Lal Thanzara and other office bearers of MFA were also present on the occasion.
