Speaking at length, Pu Robert Romawia said that as the State Games was going to be held after a gap of more than 30 years, there was an all-out effort on part of the government and the nodal Department of Sports & Youth Services to ensure that it will be a milestone in Mizoram’s sports history. In order to make the Games fair and comprehensive, players from the 40 MLA Constituencies in the state will compete in 32 different sport disciplines. Their identities will be cross-checked against their EPIC or Aadhar cards, in order to avoid any duplication. For each sport discipline, only one contestant from each Constituency will be accepted. However, the same contestant can take part in several disciplines if he or she desires; but there will be no special consideration while making the match schedules for the convenience of any player who might have opted to play under several disciplines, the Minister explained. The State Games is going to afford a lot of hidden talents from remote areas a good platform to display their skills, which will also make them easier to be spotted and further trained if necessary, he added.
The 3rd Mizoram State Games is slated to be held from 9th - 13th December in various sport venues in the capital Aizawl. There will be 32 sport disciplines in all, with 132 Men’s events and 88 Women’s events and altogether around 15120 players from the 40 Constituencies are expected to take part in the Games. Beisdes the State Level Games Committee, each Constituency has its own Committee headed by the respective MLA and the government has already sanctioned Rs.50,000/- as an advance to all the Committees for their ongoing preparation. The Minister also added that Rs.150 lakhs had been earmarked for the State Games. The Directorate of Sports & Youth Services has opened up a Mizoram State Games Office, which will serve as a Q&A Desk for all queries about the Games and the main contact person is : Pu Zothanmawia, Director, S&YS (Mob-9436145009/Ofc-0389-2325263)
