Aizawl, the 23rd November 2020 : A meeting of the State Employment Guarantee Council under the chairmanship of Rural Development Minister Pu Lalruatkima was held today via videoconferencing.

The Minister in his opening remarks mentioned that MGNREGS was a blessing for the rural people during the ongoing pandemic. He further mentioned that the effects of the pandemic next year may have a shortfall in agricultural production and hence works which can augment production need to be prioritised to the extent possible under MGNREGS.

The meeting reviewed the progress of MGNREGS and discussed the agenda which included issues such as steps to be taken in case of suspension of VECs, increase in remuneration of contract employees of MGNREGS staff and implementation of Peg System in the works.

A total of 74 work days has been provided to all Job Card Holders till October in the state and 7 work days each in November and December will be provided.
