The Bureau of Efficiency, Ministry of Power, Government of India, and North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) in collaboration with Government of Mizoram organized a State Level Painting Competition on Energy Conservation among school children which culminated yesterday in a function held at Chaltlang YMA Hall, Aizawl. Mr C.Lalrinsanga, Minister for Irrigation and Water Resource graced the valedictory programme as Chief Guest.

Saying that fiscal prudence is a key factor in boosting the State’s economy, the Minister in his speech, stated that energy conservation has an indirect yet major contribution towards building the economy.  Inculcating the importance of energy conservation in the minds of school children through activities such as organizing a state-wide painting competition with a specific theme of conservation will have a positive impact on the present as well as future generations, he added.

Among the 2560 students from 79 schools who took part in a competition held at their respective schools, 100 students were selected to face the State Level Competition. The competition was divided into two categories- Group A which includes students of class 4 to 6 and Group B includes students of classes 7 to 9. The first prize winner in both categories won Rs.50,000, second prize Rs.30,000, third prize Rs.20,000 plus certificates. 10 consolation prize winners in both categories were given Rs.7500 each. A participation price which carries Rs.2000 cash prize and a wristwatch were given to all participants.

Winners in the Group A categories are – first prize winner Lalremruati, Tuithaveng Upper Primary School, Kolasib; second prize Lalruatpuia, Kualmawi PES, Bilkhawthlir; third prize Lalfaksanga Junior, Tuikhurhlu Upper Primary School. Group B winners are – first prize Ramthlanmawii, Tiny Tots Hr.Sec.School, Aizawl; second prize H.Lalnunfela, Radiant Hearts School, Thingsulthliah; third price Hamida Kawsar, St Henry’s School, Vairengte.
