Aizawl, the 2nd December 2022: The Working Committee for Roll Out of 5G Network held its first meeting on 30thNovember at the Chief Secretary’s Conference Hall MINECO under the chairmanship of Dr. Renu Sharma, Chief Secretary who is also the Chairman of this Working Committee. The meeting was attended by officials of ICT Department, Power & Electricity Department, UD&PA Department, Public Works Department, AMC; officials from the Department of Telecom, Government of India and representatives of COAI (Cellular Operators Association of India), DIPA (Digital Infrastructure Providers Association), Reliance, Jio and Airtel.
ICT Secretary, Pu Lalramsanga Sailo highlighted the need to synergise efforts between government departments and agencies and private telecom players for the successful roll out of 5G Services in the state. Pu C. Lalhmachhuana, Director, NELSA, Department of Telecom, Government of India made a presentation on 5G Services and elaborated on the steps needed to be taken in this regard. The meeting also discussed the draft of ‘The Mizoram Telecom Infrastructure (Amendment), Policy 2022’ with the various stakeholders. ICT Department and Telecom organizations will soon have a meeting to discuss modalities to formalise rolling out of 5G services in some locations in the state by March 2023
Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 5G Services in the country on 1stOctober 2022. As of now many cities in the country including Guwahati and some airports have rolled out these services. To spearhead rolling out of 5G Services in the state, the state government has set up the ‘Working Committee for Roll out of 5G Network’ on 31stOctober to take up the matter.
