Aizawl the 1st December 2022 : A one-day conference on Anti-Human Trafficking was held today at Mizoram Assembly conference hall with Home Minister Shri Lalchamliana as Chief Guest and Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, DGP, Mizoram as Guest of honour.
The Chief Guest Shri Lalchamliana conveyed his gratitude to the organisers of the conference and hoped that it will be fruitful in eliminating the menace of human trafficking in Mizoram. The Minister said that human trafficking which is a global menace has its presence in Mizoram too and is one of the most shameful crimes affecting the lives of many people. He applauded the performance of Mizoram Police and NGOs in tackling human trafficking cases both in Mizoram and outside the State following proper legal process to rescue the victims. Mentioning that there has been 35 trafficking cases in Mizoram since 2000 where 89 Girls and 6 Boys have been rescued and 64 perpetrators have been arrested, the Minister emphasized the importance of coordination and collaboration among Mizoram Police and different NGOs of the State.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Devesh Chandra Srivastva, DGP Mizoram also complimented CID team for its excellent work in spreading awareness as well as prevention and detection of trafficking cases in Mizoram. He pointed out that domestic workers and those going for maid-jobs in hope of better employment in other countries are most vulnerable to exploitation; therefore, job placement agencies and Mizoram Police along with different NGOs need to work together to erase this menace completely.
Representatives from CYMA, MHIP, CKTP, MTKP, Salvation Army Hqrs., MZP, Young Chakma Association, Salvation Army Youth and MUP attended the conference today. The programme was chaired by Shri Lalhuliana Fanai, DIG CID & Nodal Officer, AHTU Mizoram and Shri Deotosh K. S. Singh, SP CID(Crime) & Asst. Nodal Officer, AHTU ended it with a vote of thanks.
The inauguration programme was followed by discussion and deliberation among the resource persons and the invitees.
