484/2026-2027

Mamit, 26th October 2026: Pu B. Lalchhanzova, Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs Department, visited Tuidam in Mamit district to inspect the ongoing work on the 119.450 km long Panisagar – Aizawl Pipeline, being constructed under the Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited (IGGL) as part of the Northeast Gas Grid Project. The Minister was accompanied by Pu Ravi Dadich, IAS, Secretary, FCS & CA; Pu R. Lalthazuala, Director, FCS & CA; Pu Andrew Vanlaldika, Addl. Secretary; Pu Suvigya S Chandra, IAS, Deputy Commissioner; Er. PC David Lalrinliana, Sr. EE, PWD, NH Division-1; officials from Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited; and the Executive Director of Metallurgical and Engineering Consultants (India) Limited (MECON).

Supply Minister Pu B. Lalchhanzova stated that global conflicts have caused various disruptions, resulting in Mizoram facing cooking gas (LPG) shortages for certain periods. To resolve these domestic cooking energy issues through piped gas connections, approximately ₹9,265 Crore is being invested under the Northeast Gas Grid Project to lay 1,656 km of gas pipelines across various Northeastern states. He mentioned that IGGL is currently working on connecting Mizoram with the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited. This initiative will first be implemented in Mamit and Aizawl districts, with expectations to reach Mamit town by March – April 2027, and Sihhmui in Aizawl by March – April 2028.

Pu B. Lalchhanzova highlighted that once Mizoram is connected via the gas pipeline, vehicles will be able to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), as seen in other states. He expressed hope that this would significantly reduce the demand for liquid fuel and eradicate the frequent cooking disruptions caused by LPG shortages. He urged IGGL officials to expedite the works so that the citizens of Mizoram can access piped gas connections at the earliest, assuring them that the Government of Mizoram stands ready to provide all necessary assistance to complete the project. The Minister also emphasized the importance of close coordination and cooperation among various government departments, the District Administration, and the local public to secure this permanent, beneficial asset for the state.

During today's inspection of the IGGL project in Mamit district, the Supply Minister assessed infrastructural issues along the Tuidam approach road. It was noted that a 1.5 km stretch of the pipeline route requires widening at several spots. To ensure these adjustments do not disrupt existing road repair plans, officials from IGGL and the PWD held discussions on-site to coordinate their operations.

Under this initiative by Indradhanush Gas Grid Limited via the Northeast Gas Grid Project, the pipeline will connect the Tripura Natural Gas Company Limited (TNGCL) with Aizawl city. The 119.450 km Panisagar – Aizawl link will utilize a 12-inch diameter pipe with a thickness of 7.14 mm, featuring 6 Sectionalizing Valve Stations, 1 Dispatch Terminal, and 1 Receiving Terminal. The pipeline will cover 15.105 km across 6 villages in Tripura, and 104.345 km across 20 villages within Mizoram. The laying of the Panisagar – Aizawl pipeline is being executed by M/s Cortech International Limited under IGGL, with a budget allocation of ₹491 Crore under the Northeast Gas Grid Project.
